NAGPUR: Vidarbha needed to seize early moments on the final day to have a last shot at the glory at Civil Lines stadium. The defending champions did well to capture an early Uttar Pradesh wicket. They even kept the lid on run-flow which kept the rivals under pressure.
However, as soon as the second new ball was taken, the hosts let the advantage slip and also the hopes of regaining the Under-19 Cooch Behar Trophy began to vanish by the time lunch was called on Thursday.

They paid the price for not showing enough intent to defend the title on the Day 4 as Uttar Pradesh emerged champions on the basis of first innings lead in the drawn game.
UP were leading by 180 runs when they resumed the day at 148 for 5. Then, they were reduced to 201 for 8 after Harsh Dubey’s trapped Kartik Tyagi (2) plumb with the new ball in 85th over. Later, over reliance on spinner and Choudhary’s shot-making unsettled Vidarbha, who eventually bowled UP out for 305.
Vidarbha were chasing 338 for win in the last session, which was highly impossible. They managed 53 for 1 in 15 overs when the match came to an end.
Vidarbha leaked too many runs with the second new ball when they could have wrapped up Uttar Pradesh innings quickly. Vidarbha skipper Yash Kadam preferred spinners over successful pacers — Dushyant Tekan and Nachiket Bhute. UP’s centurion Sameer Choudhary (119; 248b, 18x4, 3x6) hit all the spinners with controlled shots.
