Vijay Hazare Trophy: Pondicherry crush Mizoram by 10 wickets

CHENNAI: Pondicherry crushed Mizoram by 10 wickets in their Vijay Hazare Trophy clash at Dehradun on Wednesday. The architects of Pondicherry's second victory in the competition were - Vinay Kumar (3 for 14) and skipper D Rohit (3 for 2) with the ball and V Marimuthu who hit an unbeaten 44.
Pondicherry - who won the toss and fielded first - dismissed Mizoram for just 67 in 33.2 overs. A target of 68 didn't test Pondicherry one bit as they crossed the finish line in just 13.2 overs.Pondicherry now has 10 points from 3 matches in the Plate group.
In the first half of play, the experienced Vinay was on the money from the word go -dismissing the Mizoram openers cheaply. Vinay had opener Sailo caught by Paras Dogra off the very first ball of the match.
Mizoram lost their second when Vinay dismissed Lalhmagaiha (1) in the fourth over of the innings to leave them at 4 for 2. If Vinay started the slide for Mizoram, Sagar Trivedi (2 for 16) and Ashith Rajiv Sanganakal (2 for 15) then accounted for the middle-order before Rohit finished things off.
In reply, Marimuthu and Dogra ensured there were no hiccups for Pondicherry as they coasted to victory in quick time. Marimuthu was the aggressor of the two as his unbeaten 40-ball knock contained 5 fours and 2 sixes.
Dogra remain unconquered at the other end with 24 runs from 40 balls. The D Rohit-led side will next be taking on Nagaland on October 4.
