KOLKATA: Mohammedan Sporting Club will begin their campaign in the Sikkim Governor's Gold Cup on Friday when they face the challenge of Army Red in a quarterfinal clash of the tournament at the Paljor Stadium in Gangtok. The match is scheduled to kick-off at 5pm.
After their outing in the CFL Premier Division A, coach Saheed Ramon and his men have now turned their focus to this new challenge.

"A knockout competition is always different from a league. Even a very small mistake can bring an end to your path in the tournament. So, we will have to be at our best if we are to progress through to the next round," Saheed Ramon was quoted as saying in an official press statement of Mohammedan Sporting Club on Thursday.
Mohammedan Sporting Club had emerged champions in the tournament in 2016 when they beat Nepal's Jhapa FC by a solitary goal scored by Manvir Singh. But, the team's coach feels that history would not count much going into this edition of the meet.
"It's true that our record in the Sikkim Governor's Gold Cup is very good but tomorrow is the beginning of a new tournament and everybody is extremely serious to put up a good show. I know the expectations are very high and we will think of nothing other than a win when we hit the pitch tomorrow," the coach added.
Saheed Ramon also added that they would not look too far ahead and take one match at a time. "We always prefer to take one game at a time. We don't see any reason to change our philosophy now. The game of football is very unpredictable and we have to keep our heads down and continue doing the job on the field," he opines.
