KOLKATA: Vakiria FC emerged champions of the women's section of the Independence Day Celebration Football Tournament in Mizoram on Saturday. In the summit clash of the meet, which was played under floodlights at the Lammual Stadium in Aizawl, Vakiria FC got the better of NCC FC side 3-0.
C Zairemmawii scored two goals (19th and 29th minute) for the champions while Grace H Lalrampari netted the other goal in the 66th minute of the encounter.

Vakiria FC, the more experienced team than their final opponents, enjoyed more possession and domination in the early stages of the match. C Zairemmawii then broke the deadlock in the 19th minute, when she netted a classical striker's goal by converting a gilt-edged opportunity that gave the rival custodian absolutely no chance to react.
Ten minutes after the opening goal, it was C Zairemmawii who struck again as she found the back of the net with a brilliant free-kick conversion.
NCC FC dished out a much better performance after the change of ends as they dominated the midfield and made some quality runs. However, they lacked the cutting edge in the attacking third.
On the other side of the pitch, Vakiria FC swelled their lead further when they scored against the run of play through a clever finish by India international Grace H Lalrampari in the 66th minute.
NCC FC had an opportunity to reduce the arrears in the dying minutes of the tie but failed to convert from the spot.
