Yes, that is true. After changing Allahabad’s name to Prayagraj, the Indian government has decided to rename the Andaman islands after Indian freedom fighter Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. So, you now need to be ready to book your tickets for Netaji Island in place of the Andaman Islands!
This move includes three very popular and most-frequented islands in the Andamans, namely Havelock, Ross, and Neil; all the three derive names from British colonisers and will be renamed soon. Ross Island will soon be called Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Island, Havelock Island will be known as Swaraj Dweep and Neil Island will be called Shaheed Dweep.

The formal announcement on the move is likely to be made on 30th December 2018, by Indian PM Narendra Modi. The day also marks the 75th anniversary of Subhash Chandra Bose declaring the Andamans as the first territory freed from the Britishers. It was Bose, who hoisted the Indian flag at Port Blair and claimed the region from the British. It was during this time Bose suggested renaming of the Andaman and Nicobar islands as Shaheed and Swaraj, respectively.
A demand to rename the islands was made last year by lawmakers, who expressed unhappiness over the fact these names are derived from British colonisers.

For those who do not know, Havelock is named after Sir Henry Havelock, a British General who killed hundreds of Indian soldiers during the 1857 mutiny; Neil Island gets its name from James George Smith Neill, another man from the British army involved in killing several Indians, while Ross Island takes its name after Captain Daniel Ross, who was a British marine surveyor.
