Been to Minicoy Island yet?

The craze for Andamans has somehow let the beautiful Lakshadweep go unnoticed all these years. Not anymore. The smallest union territory of India by the Laccadive Sea is the new rage among newlyweds. From breathtakingly beautiful coral reefs to the beautiful lagoons, from coconut groves to aesthetically arranged beach huts – Minicoy has a lot to offer. Scuba diving, snorkelling, parasailing, kayaking, water skiing, deep-sea fishing, sailing, glass-bottom boat ride tours, and fishing… the place has you covered completely.

Food scene

Been to Minicoy Island yet?

The food in Lakshadweep is highly influenced by Kerala’s food culture and if you’re a seafood lover, you are in for a delightful experience. Minicoy’s traditional dish is mus kavaab, which is a fish curry-kebab served hot with rice or roti. While a well-cooked octopus is a rare find in most parts of India, the crispy octopus fry in Minicoy won’t disappoint you. Also try their signature fish pakodas that are widely available in most shacks and restaurant there. Other popular main course dishes that you can’t miss out on are rayereha — a red tuna curry, and sannath — a white coconut-based tuna curry, served with rice and Malabar parotta. End your meal with their customary dessert, Kadalakka, which is a sugar coated sweet made of pulses and ground rice. Pure vegetarians can opt for vegetarian south Indian food, which won’t disappoint you either.

How to get there?

Flying from Kochi to Lakshadweep’s Agatti airport takes about just an hour and a half and Minicoy Island is another 300 km from the airport. But we advise you to take the water route as there are several passenger ships that connect Kochi to Minicoy.

The best time to visit the Minicoy islands ranges from September to May when the climate is relatively pleasant. The summers are hot and humid but the monsoons are the worst. December kicks off the peak season and it lasts till February end
