Located amid dark green forests, along the banks of the Lohit River and near a village where the sunrise can be first seen in India.
The Indian Army is reviewing an internal proposal to transform the heavily militarised area near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China into a tourist destination. Reportedly, the army feels that the region has a potential for becoming a summer tourist hub.

Situated in the middle of lush green jungles with the river Lohit flowing alongside and a village from where one can witness the first sunrise in India, this destination is located in Arunachal Pradesh.
It is via Kibithu in Arunachal Pradesh which lies 8 km south of the LAC that one of Brahmaputra’s tributaries, Lohit River, forays into India and passes through Lohit Valley. The Kibithu region is not much populated; with its towering mountains located on the banks of Lohit River, the Dong village is located where the sunrise can be see between 3:30 AM and 4:00 AM.

In 1962, the Kibithu sector played a witness to the Indo-China battles. However, it is presently a peaceful area albeit heavily guarded with only a few adventure-loving and daring tourists making it to this region.

As per the news reports published in the Economic Times, the Indian Army wants more tourists to visit Kibithu sector. Reportedly, a proposal about making trekking routes via the jungles has been forwarded for reviewing the growth of the Kibithu area into a tourism spot. In addition, on the trekking routes, ashrams and yoga centres can also be set-up for the tourists to take some rest. Also, the proposal also includes river rafting activities on Lohit River.

The Army has also held meeting with the local authorities to open Pawan Hans helicopter services till the Walong (about 25 km from Kibithu) Advanced Landing Ground (ALG) for the convenience of tourists.

So far, the ALG was being used by the army to get its daily supplies and medical evacuation by military helicopters. Reportedly, it is a good option in comparison to the national highway connecting Tezu which is located 250 km from Kibithu owing to poor road conditions.
