World’s biggest temple to come up in West Bengal’s Mayapur

The Temple of Vedic Planetarium is ready to gain fame as the world’s largest temple. Slated to be completed by 2022, the first-of-its-kind pujari floor of the temple covers one lakh square feet area.
The shrine is situated in Mayapur in Nadia district of West Bengal, it has been decorated with massive chandeliers and modern technology will be used to broadcast puja sessions live worldwide. Mayapur is the headquarter of the International Society of Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON).

News has it that the temple construction started two decades ago and more than two crore kilograms of cement have gone into its massive structure. The temple will have one lakh square feet of every floor and what makes it even more beautiful is the largest dome in the world.

The objective behind making this temple is to spread Vedic culture and knowledge throughout the world via a materialised scientific and authoritative platform on the lines of Vedic knowledge. The makers of this 380 ft high temple have used Blue Bolivian Marble to add touches of western architecture to the structure.

Sadabhuja Das, Managing Director of the Temple of Vedic Planetarium told the press that the marble has been procured from Vietnam and India. The uniqueness of the temple lies in its 2.5 ac wide pujari floor and the temple floor that measures 60 m in diameter. To make the shrines of the deities look special, the authorities are building 20 m long Vedic chandeliers.

Reportedly, a floor will have the capacity to accommodate 10000 devotees at a time. There will be enough space for them to dance, sing and pray before the idol of Lord Krishna as it customarily happens in ISKCON temples.

The idea behind building this shrine is to realise the vision of Acharya Prabhupada of ISKCON, whose wish was to make something that will draw people from all the globe to Mayapur, the birthplace of the renowned Vaishnava saint, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.

Considering the huge number of tourists that visit Mayapur annually, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee had bestowed the title of a heritage city on Mayapur.
