Watch: When Chennai waves got the blues

Beach visitors at Chennai were in for a pleasant surprise on Sunday. They were greeted by blue waves at Chennai East coast. The phenomenon of blue waves is known as Bioluminescence. This happens due to the bioluminescent phytoplankton algae. The algae convert chemical into electrical energy when the waves hit the shore. Similar waves were seen at Maldives in Indian Ocean last year as well.
