High school football roundup: Stump shines in Thomas Jefferson’s Week Zero win

Shane Stump threw for 294 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for 120 yards and an 80-yard score to lead Class 4A No. 1 Thomas Jefferson to a 54-10 win against Class 6A Canon-McMillan (0-1) in a Week Zero nonconference football game Friday night.

Preston Zandier caught four passes for 149 yards two touchdowns for the Jaguars (1-0).

Armstrong 42, Indiana 13 — In nonconference play, Class 5A Armstrong (1-0) downed Class 4A Indiana (0-1).

Avonworth 21, Neshannock 7 — Jax Miller rushed for 177 yards and a touchdown in Avonworth’s nonconference win against Neshannock (0-1). Park Penrod added 166 passing yards and two touchdowns for Avonworth (1-0).

Beaver 30, Brashear 0 — Despite being outgained 226 yards to 160 yards, Beaver (1-0) shut out Brashear (0-1) in nonconference play. Jackson Thomas ran for 72 yards and two touchdowns while teammate Wyatt Ringer scored on a 27-yard reception and a 42-yard interception return. Daquon Lewis rushed for 116 yards for Brashear.

Beaver Falls 48, Ellwood City 0 — Jabarhi Cleckley threw for 71 yards and a score, and Shileak Livingston had 61 yards and two scores on the ground as Beaver Falls (1-0) won a nonconference game.

Bishop Carroll 41, Carrick 0 — In nonconference play, Bishop Carroll (1-0) blanked Carrick (0-1).

Brownsville 33, Bentworth 27 — Class 2A Brownsville (1-0) slipped past Bentworth (0-1) in a nonconference matchup.

California 32, Beth-Center 27 — Cochese Ryan threw for 106 yards, ran for 86 yards and three touchdowns and intercepted two passes on defense as Class A California (1-0) beat Class 2A Beth-Center (0-1) in nonconference play.

Carlynton 35, Bishop Canevin 12 — Class 2A Carlynton (1-0) defeated Class A Bishop Canevin (0-1) in nonconference play.

Central Valley 32, Blackhawk 15 — Jaylen Guy ran for 124 yards to lead Class 3A No. 4 Central Valley (1-0) to the win at Class 4A No. 5 Blackhawk (0-1). Central Valley gained 220 yards on the ground and 283 overall while holding Blackhawk to 94 total yards.

Chartiers Valley 42, Ringgold 0 — Griffin Beattie ran for 132 yards and a touchdown and caught two passes for 98 yards and a 72-yard TD as Class 5A Chartiers Valley (1-0) downed Class 4A Ringgold (0-1) in nonconference play. Andre Thomas added 82 rushing yards and three touchdowns while Anthony Mackey completed all three of his passes for 100 yards and a touchdown.

Chartiers-Houston 23, Fort Cherry 0 — Tyler Blumen scored on an 80-yard punt return as Class A Chartiers-Houston (1-0) shut out Class 2A Fort Cherry (0-1) in a nonconference game.

Connellsville 42, Uniontown 17 — Ky’Ron Craggette ran for 235 yards and three touchdowns to lead Class 5A Connellsville (1-0) to a nonconference win at Class 3A Uniontown (0-1). Josh Maher threw for 162 yards and a touchdown and ran for TD for Connellsville. Craig Soltis threw for 144 yards and two touchdowns for Uniontown.

Freedom 18, Hopewell 3 — Max Ujhazy ran for 105 yards and a touchdown as Class 2A Freedom (1-0) defeated Class 3A Hopewell (0-1) in a nonconference matchup. Jay’Von Jeter threw for 117 yards to pace Hopewell’s offense.

Jeannette 34, East Allegheny 12 — Jimmy Sanders threw for 186 yards and a touchdown to lead Class A No. 2 Jeannette (1-0) to a nonconference win at Class 2A East Allegheny (0-1). Imani Sanders caught five passes for 110 yards and ran for two touchdowns.

Kiyon Delts and Johnny Moritz threw for 141 and 124 yards, respectively, for East Allegheny with each throwing for a touchdown.

Keystone Oaks 26, Brentwood 21 — Logan Shrubb threw for 150 yards and a touchdown and ran for 150 yards and another score to lead Class 3A Keystone Oaks (1-0) to a nonconference win at Class 2A Brentwood (0-1). John Milcic threw for 321 yards and three touchdowns for Brentwood.

Kiski Area 13, Allderdice 12 — Thomas Burke hit Jason Baker with a 6-yard scoring pass in the fourth quarter to give Kiski Area (1-0) a nonconference win against Allderdice (0-1). Peyton McCann paced Kiski Area with 138 rushing yards and one touchdown.

Laurel 21, Mohawk 0 — Class 3A No. 3 Laurel (1-0) shut out Class 2A Mohawk (0-1) in nonconference play.

Mapletown 29, Avella 6 — Zach Greene ran six times for 101 yards and touchdowns of 25 and 65 yards as Mapletown (1-0) defeated Avella (0-1) in nonconference play. Landon Stevens added two 1-yard touchdown runs for Mapletown, which outgained Avella, 263 yards to 115.

Mars 28, West Mifflin 6 — Teddy Ruffner ran 21 times for 197 yards and three touchdowns to lead Class 5A Mars (1-0) to a nonconference win over Class 4A No. 4 West Mifflin (0-1). Jaylen Dukes threw for 136 yards and West Mifflin’s only touchdown.

McDowell 35, Seneca Valley 14 — Braeden Soboleski threw for two touchdowns as McDowell (1-0) defeated Class 6 No. 4 Seneca Valley (0-1) in nonconference play. Gabe Lawson threw for 192 yards and ran for a touchdown for Seneca Valley.

New Brighton 21, Rochester 0 — Jackson Hall threw for 139 yards and a touchdown and Jacob Francona ran for two TDs as Class 2A New Brighton (1-0) blanked Class A No. 4 Rochester (0-1). Rashawn Reid ran for 96 yards in the loss.

North Allegheny 21, Friendship Collegiate Academy (D.C.) 0 — At the WPIAL vs. Everybody Showcase at North Allegheny, the host team shut out Friendship Collegiate Academy (D.C.).

North Hills 46, Butler 21 — In nonconference play, Tommy McDonough ran for 101 yards and a touchdown and returned a kickoff 91 yards for another score as Class 5A North Hills (1-0) beat Class 6A Butler (0-1). Curtis Foskey added 108 rushing yards and a touchdown in the win.

Peters Township 45, Fox Chapel 0 — In nonconference play, Class 5A No. 2 Peters Township (1-0) recorded six sacks and held Fox Chapel (0-1) to nine total yards en route to a shutout win. Logan Pfeuffer threw for 132 yards and three touchdowns for Peters Township, which scored all of its points in the first half.

Shenango 24, Union 13 — Reis Watkins ran for 193 yards and two touchdowns to lead Class 2A Shenango (1-0) to the nonconference win at Class A Union (0-1). Santino Campoli threw for 212 yards in the win while Tyler Benedict tossed for 194 yards and a touchdown for Union.

South Allegheny 21, Frazier 7 — In nonconference play, Antonio Epps ran for 99 yards and a touchdown to lead South Allegheny (1-0) to victory at Frazier (0-1).

Sto-Rox 32, South Side Beaver 21 — Amahd Pack caught five passes for 101 yards and a touchdown as Class A Sto-Rox (1-0) beat Class 2A South Side Beaver (0-1). Eric Wilson threw for 202 yards, and Zay Davis added two rushing touchdowns for Sto-Rox. Aden Almashy threw for 129 yards and a touchdown to lead South Side’s offense.

University Prep 14, Farrell 12 — University Prep (1-0) slipped past Farrell (0-1) in a nonconference game.

Washington 48, Laurel Highlands 21 — Zack Swartz threw for 202 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 120 yards and four TDs to lead Class 2A No. 1 Washington (1-0) over Class 4A Laurel Highlands (0-1) in nonconference play. Zahmere Robinson caught five passes for 97 yards and a touchdown and rushed 41 yards for another score for Washington, which put up 525 yards of offense.

Waynesburg 38, Jefferson-Morgan 0 — Class 3A Waynesburg (1-0) downed Class A Jefferson-Morgan (0-1) in nonconference play.

District 6

Ligonier Valley 67, Homer-Center 0 — Sam Sheeder found Matthew Marinchak for a pair of first-quarter touchdown receptions, and Kyrie Miller added TD runs of 89 and 13 yards early on to lift Ligonier Valley (1-0) to a District 6 Heritage Conference win.
