Walnut Street in Springdale reopened Wednesday afternoon after a two-day closure for emergency repairs.

Walnut Street in Springdale reopened Wednesday afternoon after being closed since Sunday.

A portion of Walnut Street at the intersection with Porter Street was damaged after heavy rains Saturday caused water to get into a seam and lift and crack some of the asphalt. Borough crews had to dig up the damaged area and repave it.

Carmen Canonico, head of Springdale’s roads department, said the borough got the asphalt needed to finish the emergency repairs on Wednesday morning. The asphalt order had been delayed Tuesday, which caused the street to be closed an extra day.

“We got it first thing this morning and it went right in,” Canonico said.

Crews began making emergency repairs Monday. About 30 homes were affected by the closure.

Canonico said the only thing left to do is to seal the edges of the asphalt once the temperature drops. He said they would have to wait for the next cool morning.
