Emergency crews work the scene of a crash on Monday, June 17, 2019, along Rt. 22 near its intersection with Quarry Drive in Salem Township.

An Export man was seriously hurt Monday after crashing head-on into another vehicle while driving west in the eastbound lanes of Route 22 in Salem Township, according to state police.

Troopers said David J. Foti, 71, started driving in the wrong direction near the intersection of routes 819 and 22 at 5:15 p.m. About a half-mile down the highway, his SUV crashed into an eastbound SUV near Fenneltown Road.

Foti’s Ford Explorer flipped onto its roof, trapping him inside. He was removed by emergency responders and flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.

The other driver, Jamison P. Hughes, 41, of Indiana, was not hurt, police said. His passenger, Christina A. Tew, 39, of Indiana, was taken to AHN Forbes Hospital in Monroeville for treatment of minor injuries.
