West Virginia man accused in fatal shooting of Delmont native
A West Virginia man is accused of fatally shooting a Westmoreland County native in February during an apparent attempted home invasion, according to the Herald Mail.
Authorities said Alvin Deshaun Gilbert, 27, fired the shots that killed Corey Barkhamer, 26, formerly of Delmont, on Feb. 3 at a home in Martinsburg, W.Va. Gilbert’s case was transferred to circuit court last week after a preliminary hearing.
Investigators testified Barkhamer owed Gilbert money for drugs, the newspaper reported. Barkhamer was found inside the home with two gunshot wounds to his chest and was taken to a hospital, where he died. Investigators learned of an apparent drug deal involving the two men through a cell phone found at the scene, according to newspaper accounts.
Gilbert was being held without bond at Eastern Regional Jail near Martinsburg.
According to his obituary, Barkhamer served in the U.S. Army between 2011 and 2014 before being medically discharged. A memorial service was held in Jeannette last month.
