Pennsylvania reports 849 new coronavirus cases, 33 deaths
Pennsylvania remained in triple digits for new coronavirus cases on Wednesday — as it has so far in all of August.
The state’s Department of Health added 849 new positive covid-19 results, bringing the state’s total to 121,130 since the outbreak began in March.
For the month, daily new cases have ranged from 565 to 888, with an average of 757. The state averaged 821 cases per day in July, 489 in June, 844 in May, 1,364 in April and 186 in March.
The state also added 33 deaths, bringing the total to 7,385. There was one death added from June, four from July and 28 from August. There have been 95 deaths reported in Pennsylvania so far this month.
There have been 24,305 cases at 887 nursing and personal care homes in the state, with 20,119 among residents and 4,186 among employees. More than 67% of the state’s deaths (5,012) have occurred in those facilities.
Among Western Pennsylvania counties, Allegheny County saw the largest rise with 70 new cases to bring its total to 9,078. Here’s how other counties fared, with their totals Wednesday and the growth from Tuesday:
- Armstrong —230 (+8)
- Beaver — 1,351 (+19)
- Butler — 695 (+18)
- Fayette — 582 (+20)
- Indiana — 335 (+9)
- Somerset — 138 (+2)
- Washington — 871 (+9)
- Westmoreland — 1,573 (+18)
Of the new cases, Philadelphia had the most with 90, followed by Delaware (89), Allegheny (70), Luzerne (49) and Bucks (44).
According to the state’s data, Philadelphia saw the most newly reported deaths with six, followed by Allegheny and Delaware (five each), Berks, Lancaster and York (three each) and Northumberland (two).
