Westmoreland campus clippings: GCC grad Collin Liberatore stays unbeaten for Indiana State

The Greensburg Central Catholic graduate improved to 7-0 this season after working eight strong innings in an 8-2 win Sunday over Evansville. The 6-foot-4 right-hander struck out two and gave up eight hits in the victory.

Liberatore, a transfer from Pitt, has a 2.11 ERA for the season with one complete game, 39 strikeouts, and 17 walks in 64 innings.

Baseball

Pitt-Greensburg: Junior Derek Shaw gave the Bobcats a walk-off win with a single to left, and senior Chris Common (Penn-Trafford) homered in a 10-9 win over Hilbert. Common also homered in the second game of the doubleheader, giving him four on the season for UPG (11-17, 8-6 AMCC).

Sophomore Andy Prentice struck out a career-best seven in the first game. Junior Matt Mish had a complete game with 10 strikeouts in Game 2.

Seton Hill: Sophomore righthander Jared Kollar (Latrobe) picked up his third win of the season with a four-hitter that included five strikeouts. Junior Tommy Pellis (Greensburg Central Catholic) scored two runs and had an RBI, and freshman Isaiah DiAndreth went 2 for 4 with an RBI as the Griffins (20-16, 11-7) defeated Cal (Pa.), 5-2.

Andrew Chuba, a redshirt senior, had a hot week for Seton Hill and earned PSAC West Player of the Week honors. He went 5 for 9 over four games with seven runs, three homers and five RBIs. He reached base in 11 of his 15 plate appearances and walked six times.

Softball

Penn State: Nittany Lions home run leader Chelsea Bisi (Derry) hit two more — Nos. 10 and 11 for the season — during a weekend three-game series against Maryland. She went 5 for 12 with six RBIs as Penn State (22-25, 6-11 Big Ten) took two of three from the Terrapins.

Seton Hill: Senior Devin Terry homered, went 3 for 3 with four RBIs and pitched a shutout as the Griffins bounced Mercyhurst, 4-0. Terry (13-6) allowed two hits and struck out five.

Seton Hill earned a doubleheader sweep, winning Game 2, 7-1. Sophomore Jenna Osikowicz (Hempfield) went 3 for 6 with an RBI, senior Brooke Bower added four hits, and sophomore Skyla Greco (10-7) was the winning pitcher in the second game, striking out five and giving up three hits.

Osikowicz leads the team with a .411 batting average.

Men’s track & field

Seton Hill: Samuel Hartman set a school record in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.57 seconds at the Ashland Alumni Classic. Teammate DaLon Ryles won the long jump with a mark of 6.36 meters.

Women’s track & field

West Virginia: Freshman pole vaulter Molly DeBone (Hempfield) posted a season-best mark of 11 feet, 3 3/4 inches to tie for fifth during a quad-meet at Virginia.

Men’s lacrosse

Seton Hill: The Griffins (10-3, 5-0 G-MAC) used a nine-goal fourth quarter to defeat Walsh, 19-5, to secure home-field advantage for the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament, which begins May 2. The Griffins moved up to No. 9 in the USILA/Warrior and New Balance Men’s coaches polls.

Junior goalkeeper Max Eisman was named Great Midwest Conference Defensive Athlete of the Week for the third time this season. He made 14 saves in the win over Walsh.
