The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management said all state beaches will be open daily starting Monday through Labor Day, but with restrictions.
The DEM said lifeguards will be on duty and that concessions, pavilions and restrooms will be open.
The state also said it will begin charging for parking on Monday. Parking fees remain the same as last year, but they will be collected until 6 p.m. daily.
The DEM said the number of spots in parking lots will be reduced. State beach parking passes can be purchased online.
"While I am happy that state beaches will be open to the public, it is important for Rhode Islanders to know that the lots may fill quickly. People should expect that they may encounter traffic backups and closed lots. Please be patient and plan for delays. We want everyone to enjoy a safe experience and a prepare for a different summer, even at the beach," DEM Director Janet Coit said in a release.
Beachgoers should stay 6 feet from others outside their households and wear a face covering in public areas.
The DEM said Salty's Burgers and Seafood, which serves food at Roger Wheeler, East Matunuck, Salty Brine, Scarborough and Misquamicut state beaches, has set up on online ordering system. Beachgoers will get a text when their orders are ready for pickup.
The state also said the nonsurf beaches at Lincoln Woods State Park, Goddard Memorial State Park, Burlingame Picnic Area, Pulaski State Park, and Fort Adams State Park will be open daily beginning Monday through Labor Day. There are no fees to access the beaches at state parks.
The department said it's working on a plan to reopen state campgrounds.
The DEM said East Matunuck and Scarborough North state beaches will be open this weekend and that parking will be free. Parking spots will reduced, and pavilions, restrooms and showers will be closed.
