A small earthquake was recorded Monday night off the coast of Massachusetts.
The U.S. Geological Survey reported that the magnitude 1.7 quake struck about 12 miles south-southeast of Gloucester at a depth of 3 miles.
The earthquake struck at about 6:08 p.m.
The largest earthquake in Massachusetts history struck off Cape Ann in 1755 and caused damage to buildings in Boston.
The USGS said its estimated magnitude was 6.2.
