Three Very Different Restaurants and Bars Closing Soon

AM Intel: three different restaurants shut down over the weekend

Say goodbye to the OG Travail location with pizza tonight

Pig Ate My Pizza threw one final party in its original location on Robbinsdale’s main street yesterday. The restaurant is a part of the Travail collective and a piece of the chef-owned restaurant group’s major plans for shuffling locations this year. Pig Ate My Pizza will re-open in what was last known as Travail at 4124 West Broadway as a pizza restaurant and brewpub. Travail, the tasting menu-fueled culinary playground has already moved out of the spot and is doing long term pop-ups in Minneapolis. (Homage is happening right now.) Travail will eventually re-open in a massive, newly constructed restaurant across.

—This weekend was also the swan song for Meyvn, the all day bagel restaurant from Laurel Elm, Tim Niver, and chef Adam Eaton. The restaurant location has churned through several eateries in the span of a couple of years. Meyvn opened on the corner of Bryant and East Lake Street last summer. The bagels will still be available at Kowalski’s restaurants and fans of the leadership trio can still track them down at their other restaurant, Lowertown Saint Paul’s lovely Saint Dinette.

Just/Us closed in downtown Saint Paul this weekend. The creativity-fueled restaurant is still hoping to secure a new space. The restaurant will remain active on social media and has launched a Go Fund Me campaign allowing fans the chance to support the relocation effort. This closure is one in a series of restaurants losing ground for redevelopment. Places like the original Grumpy’s, Nye’s, O’Gara’s, Jerusalem’s, and others have been knocked down for new apartments with only some of those restaurant finding new locations. Just/Us advocated for their neighbors above them in the low-cost apartments that are also about to be displaced.

Kelly’s Depot Bar will close on April 30. The classic neighborhood bar has stood in Lowertown for generations and been operated by the Kelly family since 1989. The bar was there when the nearby Depot was a train station, held on after the station closed down, and hung around to see the building be revitalized and a light rail line be installed nearby. Through it all the affordable drinks, fantastic burgers, and small town vibe have remained. Unfortunately, the revitalization of the neighborhood means that the real estate where the bar stands, with its rare parking lot, are just too valuable for the little bar to carry on.
