BEARS DOMINATE TIGERS IN MEMPHIS

MEMPHIS, TN. - It was a complete performance for Central Arkansas men's soccer team tonight as they dominated in a thrashing 4-1 victory over Memphis. Memphis came into tonight ranked 23rd in the men's RPI, after defeating then #3 in the country SMU in extra time last Saturday.

A fast start would be the difference maker in tonight's match after a penalty kick was converted in just the second minute, and the Bears never looked back from there, finding the back of the net three more times.

First Half

  • The Bears would get on the board almost immediately after kickoff when Soren Jensen earned a penalty kick opportunity in just the second minute of the match. Niklas Brodacki would step up for the Bears and bury it into the bottom right corner.
  • The Bears would get their second in the 11th minute after a lovely through ball from Katsuyoshi Kimishima put Brodacki in one on one with the Memphis keeper, who made no mistake on the finish sliding it into the bottom right corner with his left foot.
  • Kimishima would nearly find himself on the scoresheet after a strike from outside the box forced a save from the keeper, who had to parry it out for a corner.
  • The Bears would end the first half on a high note, scoring a third in the 44th minute after Alexsi Morel put Brodacki in one on one with the keeper, who again made no mistake on the finish, this time curling it into the top right corner.

Second Half

Central Arkansas would find another in the 57th minute after a service from a Soren Jensen set piece found the head of Alberto Suarez, who's header flashed right by the keeper on its way into the bottom right corner. Central Arkansas would concede midway through the second half on a set piece, but would be the opportunity the Tigers saw the rest of the night.

Brodacki, who finished the night with a hat trick, eclipsed the all-time goal scoring mark previously held by Brett Johnson. Tonight's performance puts Brodacki at 49 career goals and he still has three matches to extend that number.

Ross Duncan Quotes

"The fast start made a massive difference in the match because that allowed us to play with a lead. With a good team like Memphis, If they get the first goal then it becomes a lot more difficult. That was so important."
