Barrasso attends health fair, discredits whistleblower in Trump’s call to Ukraine

EVANSTON — The annual Uinta County Health & Preparedness Fair held on Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Evanston Recreation Center was a success, said Evanston Regional Hospital Marketing and Business Development Director Jessica Kendrick. She said there were 32 vendors and 370 people attended.

Attendees had the opportunity to win donated gift baskets, receive lots of health information from the vendors, pick up their blood test results, mingle with friends and neighbors and meet with Sen. John Barrasso, who attends health fairs across the state.

Barrasso spent an hour visiting the booths and talking with guests. He also took a few moments to answer some questions.

When asked about the health care issue and what would happen to the 20 million people who would lose health care benefits if the Affordable Health Care Act were repealed, Barrasso said, “There are 20 million other people who didn’t get health care coverage under ObamaCare. I focus on Wyoming and that is why I support these health care events and the low-cost blood checks. Early detection is the answer. Health insurance in Wyoming costs more because of ObamaCare.

“I believe we should have more options and personal care, not federal government care,” Barrasso said. “One size does not fit all, regardless of what Bernie Sanders says. If we put more people on universal health care like Medicare, it will take away from what senior citizens get.”

A second question posed to the senator was regarding the immigration detention center proposed for Evanston. He said he hadn’t heard any new information about it.

A question about President Donald Trump’s now-infamous phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was immediately met with a question of Barrasso’s own.

“What about Joe Biden and his son Hunter’s ethics? I think it is important we have whistleblowers, but they should be credible,” he said. “I have seen the report and this whistleblower was not credible. Besides, people I talk to are more concerned with border security than they are about what’s happening in D.C.”
