EVANSTON — With Independence Day celebrations just days away, citizens are reminded to use caution with fireworks and abide by community regulations regarding days, times and locations.
In Evanston, fireworks are allowed within city limits on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, July 4-6, from 5 p.m. to midnight only. No fireworks are allowed prior to 5 p.m.
Designated public areas for the discharge of fireworks include the Overthrust Ballfields parking lot, the Centennial Valley parking lot, the Overthrust Park parking lot and Sulphur Creek Reservoir. No fireworks are permitted in any city parks or city-owned areas other than those designated.
Fireworks are not allowed on Uinta County School District No. 1 property.
It is illegal to discharge fireworks on private property without permission from the property owner or to discharge fireworks within 100 feet of any gas station or storage area where volatile liquids or gases are dispensed. Throwing or discharging fireworks from a motor vehicle, whether that vehicle is still or in motion, is prohibited.
It is illegal to discharge any rocket over 4 ounces or to release any untethered sky lanterns.
In the Town of Bear River, fireworks are permitted from 8 a.m. to midnight on July 4 only.
In Mountain View, no fireworks are permitted within town limits. Lyman regulations allow for fireworks from 9 a.m. to midnight on July 4 only.
Fireworks are allowed on private lands in unincorporated areas of Uinta County with no restrictions as of press time.
Public fireworks displays will take place on Evanston’s “E” Hill and in the Lyman Heritage Park. Folks in Evanston can tune radios to 91.5 for patriotic music to accompany the public fireworks, starting at 9:45 p.m.
Those discharging fireworks are urged to use extreme caution, avoid fireworks during windy conditions and have a supply of water available. Fire Marshall Tim Overy said, in spite of the wet spring, people need to be vigilant and aware that vegetation is starting to dry out.
Uinta County residents are also asked to please clean up fireworks after discharging.
