MACKINAC COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- The man accused of hitting and injuring a Michigan State Police sergeant has formally been charged.

Michael Joseph Hoehn, 47 of Harbor Springs, was charged with third-degree flee and elude, assault with a deadly weapon, resisting and obstructing resulting in officer injury, fail to stop at a personal injury accident, operate a vehicle while visibly impaired, reckless driving and violation of license restrictions on Friday.

According to investigators, Hoehn led deputies from the Alger County Sheriff's Office on a pursuit around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday before a be on the lookout was put out for area units.

A short time later, Hoehn drove into the parking lot of the Michigan State Police St. Ignace Post where a sergeant attempted to contact him before he fled the scene at a high rate of speed in his Chevrolet Tahoe.

The sergeant pursued Hoehn and caught up to him as he was stopped at the Mackinac Bridge toll booth.

This is when the sergeant reached into Hoehn's vehicle to turn it off but Hoehn put the vehicle into reverse and dragged the sergeant while striking two other vehicles before busting through the toll booth and onto I-75.

Officers from the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians Police Department found the vehicle abandoned on Resort Pike Road near Sheridan Road a short time later, according to investigators.

Hoehn was arrested at a condominium in Harbor Springs around 6:30 a.m. Thursday by Michigan State Police.

The sergeant was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and later released.

Hoehn is due back in court on August 24 and August 27.
