On the long, dusty — and at times mind-numbingly dull — journey between Las Vegas and Los Angeles, Primm emerges from the desert haze like some sort of bizarre apparition. From the roller coaster to the outlet mall, travelers along I-15 often wonder what exactly Primm is. And more importantly, is it worth getting off the highway for?

If one is sitting in a notorious I-15 traffic jam or simply in the market for a discounted pair of Nike sneakers, the answer is yes. And if everyone in the car is struck with a case of road trip induced hunger, the answer is also yes. Fortunately, despite the billboards on the side of the highway, there’s more to eat in Primm besides fast food. From a locally renowned Greek restaurant to a casino steakhouse, here are five restaurants in Primm that are worth pulling over for.

A Primm offshoot of a Baker favorite

It’s no longer necessary to drive all the way to Baker, California, for a taste of some of the best Greek food along I-15. The Primm location of the Mad Greek Cafe offers the same gyros, lamb souvlaki, and baklava as the original location. In addition to the home-style Greek specialties, diners love the eclectic menu of milkshakes, which includes apple pie, fresh strawberry, and date varieties.

That thirst-quenching margarita

Long drives through the hot desert should be rewarded with cold drinks. Those searching for the best margarita in Primm need look no further than Guillermo’s Cocina & Cantina. Located inside Buffalo Bill’s, this Mexican restaurant serves frozen margaritas made with fresh fruit along with spicy carne asada, beef tamales, and sizzling steak, chicken, or shrimp fajitas.

24/7 comfort food

Late-night drive from Las Vegas to Los Angeles? Primm & Proper is always open to satisfy cravings. Situated inside Primm Valley Resort, the no-frills spot serves American comfort food, including fried chicken breast topped with an over-medium egg and country gravy on brioche, pulled pork nachos with jalapeño cheese sauce, and open-faced roast beef on Texas garlic toast.

A Vietnamese alternative to food court fare

Nothing works up an appetite quite like a day of shopping. After hitting the outlets at Primm, diners looking for something convenient that isn’t prepared in a deep-fryer will love Leeli Pot. The sit-down Vietnamese restaurant serves pho, banh mi, and vermicelli specialties in a cozy setting.

An old-school steakhouse

Believe it or not, great Nevada steakhouses exist outside of Las Vegas. In Primm, GP’s Steakhouse at Primm Valley Resorts offers classic steakhouse favorites including oysters Rockefeller, warm spinach salad with bacon dressing, and a variety of broiled steaks that can be prepared with cracked pepper crust, bleu cheese, or with Alaskan king crab and bearnaise sauce.
