TRENTON (WCBS 880) — Gov. Phil Murphy will join representatives from a new academic center in New Jersey at press conference Tuesday to address gun violence.

As WCBS 880’s Peter Haskell reports, the numbers regarding gun violence are easy to find.

“It's a leading causes of morbidity and mortality in our country,” said Dr. Bernadette Hohl.

She serves as the co-director of the Center on Gun Violence Research at Rutgers University and notes that she wants to look beyond the data.

“So, the ideas is that if we want to reduce injury and mortality from these issues, we have to first identify who the people are that are being affected by the issue, what are the characteristics around the issue,” Hohl said.

The center was granted state funding in November 2018.
