Gyms and fitness centers reopened Monday as part of Gov. Jim Justice's plan of action for West Virginia.

Gov. Justice discussed the process for larger places like malls and casinos.

Over the next few weeks, more and more places can open their doors if positive case numbers stay down.

As the phases of reopening continue, health officials say now is not the time to ignore the risk and we cannot forget to social distance from one another.

"The other thing we really need to consider is wearing face coverings," said COVID-19 Czar Dr. Clay Marsh. "If we all wear them we protect each other and if other people wear them that protects us."

Gov. Justice also agreed that we still have to be cautious as the phase of opening continues.

Malls in West Virginia will be open Thursday, May 21.

"In working with all the different people from the standpoint of our medical team and medical experts," Gov. Justice said. "We now have guidelines on the indoor malls."

Gov. Justice stated that if most places are opening, larger areas should too.

"From the standpoint of big box stores and retailers opening back up naturally our malls ought to open back up," he said.

Indoor dining at restaurants will also be opening Thursday. Specialty retail stores, campgrounds and outdoor recreation rentals will add to the list of openings in West Virginia come May 21.

As for week five, Tuesday, May 26, state park cabins and lodges, museums, visitor centers, and zoos will also open. In addition, bars will be allowed to have 50% capacity.

Gov. Justice also stated tentative dates to open if everything is going as planned.

"On Saturday, May 30, and I am only doing this to give people a heads up and give them a date to plan," he said. " Our spas and massage parlors will open, plus limited video retailers and casinos open [will] open Friday, June 5."

This could all change if positive cases of the coronavirus begin to rise again. For now, it is important to stay safe and be as healthy as possible.
