Trenton man arrested after nearly 11 hour search; officials say he assaulted two deputies

A Jones County man is accused of assaulting two deputies who arrived at his Trenton home to serve an arrest warrant.

The Jones County Sheriff's Office said Donnie Mills, 36, saw the deputies approaching and tried to drive off. While trying to get away officials say Mills intentionally rammed a Jones County Sheriff's Office vehicle with two deputies inside.

They say Mills drove into a field off of NC Hwy 41 Wes, and a few hours later his vehicle was found in the middle of a cornfield.

Onslow County Sheriff's Office, Craven County Sheriff's Office, Duplin County Sheriff's Office, Maysville Police Department, North Carolina State Highway Patrol and North Carolina Probation and Parole helped with personnel and K-9's to help search for Mills.

Mills was found nearly 11 hours later in a wooded area at the end of Alonza Mills Road and was taken into custody without incident.

In this incident, he is charged with:

  • 2 Counts - Assault with Deadly Weapon on Government Official
  • 2 Counts - Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill
  • 1 Count - Flee to Elude Arrest
  • 1 Count - Felony Hit and Run with Injury
  • 1 Count - Injury to Personal Property

Mills was jailed under a $100,000 secured bond for those charges and also received an additional $250,000 bond for failure to appear on previous charges.
