The Monsoon finally entered Telangana on Friday, bringing down temperatures from the sizzling forties to far more bearable levels. However, it also brought a host of problems in its wake for residents of the capital, Hyderabad. According to a report in The Times Of India, waterlogged roads in localities like Raheja Mindspace, Hitec City and Madhapur left commuters stranded in traffic for hours on Friday.
Hyderabad Municipal Corporation officials blame the waste dumping in the stormwater drains and open nalas for the waterlogging. Hyderabad received around 0.3mm rainfall on Sunday, with the maximum recorded temperature at a relatively pleasant 32.2°C.
Between June 1 and 23, Telangana has received 55.1 mm rain against the long-term average of 93 mm, i.e. a deficit of 41%. Regions like Nirmal (-81%), Nizamabad (-71%), Malkajgiri and Kothagudem (-65%) have seen the most shortfall in rain. The situation, however, is far better in Hyderabad, which has received 72 mm, a mere deficit of 7%.
Hyderabad is likely to experience cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers until the end of the week. Data from The Weather Channel shows that the city may experience scattered rains and thunderstorms throughout Monday and Tuesday. Maximum and minimum temperatures in Hyderabad are likely to range between 34°C to 26°C for the next 48 hours.
