Dehradun district is likely to experience heavy rain over the weekend, according to the IMD. The national Met agency predicts heavy rain on Friday and Saturday, and says the wet weather could intensify further, with 'very heavy' rainfall expected on Sunday and Monday in the capital as well as Nainital, Champawat, U.S. Nagar, Pithoragarh, Chamoli, Tehri, Pauri, and Haridwar districts.

While Uttarakhand as a whole faces rain deficit of 41% (as on July 12), the shortfall in Dehradun is 32%. On Friday morning, Dehradun registered 39 mm rainfall, and residents are hoping that further rain in July will help compensate for the poor rainfall performance.

The IMD has forecast generally cloudy sky with light to moderate rainfall/thundershowers at most places in the state, as well as in Dehradun. Maximum and minimum temperatures are forecast to be around 30 and 24 degrees Celsius respectively.

The Weather Channel has also predicted heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorms over Uttarakhand for the next few days. The hourly weather forecast for the city also shows thunderstorms or scattered thunderstorms until Sunday evening.
