After wreaking havoc in southern Thailand, the tropical storm Pabuk crossed the Andaman islands on Sunday evening. The cyclonic storm Pabuk had weakened into a deep depression due to unfavourable conditions at the time of landfall.
Pabuk crossed Andaman islands between 6.30 to 8.30 pm on Sunday with a wind speed of 55-65 kmph gusting up to 75 kmph. India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast that the system is very likely to weaken further into a depression as it moves towards Myanmar.
Till Sunday evening, Port Blair received 40mm of rainfall while Carnicobar received 50mm. On Monday, heavy rainfall with thunderstorms is likely at isolated places in Andaman and Nicobar islands.
Squally wind speed gusting to 60 kmph is expected over east central and adjoining south-east Bay of Bengal on Monday morning. Sea conditions are likely to remain very rough and fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea.
Earlier on Friday, Pabuk killed 3 people in Thailand and caused more than 34,000 villagers to evacuate in southern Thailand. The storm lost its momentum on Saturday, allowing the restoration of the damaged infrastructure.
