Dust Storms, Thunderstorms Expected in Delhi, Haryana, UP and Rajasthan

Here’s our latest weather outlook for India over the next two days.

Tuesday

A cyclonic circulation over northeast India brings scattered-to-fairly-widespread rain and thunderstorm in Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Assam and Meghalaya. Isolated rain and thunderstorm are also likely over Nagaland, Manipur Mizoram and Tripura.

A western disturbance (WD) over Pakistan and Jammu and Kashmir is likely to bring dust storms or thunderstorms and isolated rain over Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. Isolated rain or snow are also possible over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Down south, a trough with a cyclonic circulation over Kerala and Tamil Nadu is likely to bring scattered to fairly widespread rain and thunderstorm over Karnataka, Kerala and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Also, isolated rain is likely over Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Tamil Nadu.

Isolated rains and/or thunderstorms are also possible in a few places like Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Punjab, Gujarat and Goa.

With fairly dry conditions over India, maximum temperatures of 45°C or more are likely to be seen in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Telangana. Temperatures of 40°C and more are likely over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

Wednesday and beyond

Heavy rain and thunderstorms are likely over the Andaman & Nicobar islands on Wednesday. Monsoon conditions are expected to be favourable over the southern Bay of Bengal and Andaman & Nicobar in the next 2 or 3 days.

Southwesterly humid winds from the Bay of Bengal will continue feeding the instability of the cyclonic circulation over the northeast region for the next five days. Furthermore, this is likely to cause widespread rain and thunderstorms in this region. Heavy rain and thunderstorms are likely over Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh from Wednesday to Saturday. Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura may also witness scattered rains or thunderstorms.

The prevailing WD, along with an induced cyclonic circulation over north Pakistan and Jammu & Kashmir, will continue to affect the mountainous regions and plains of northern India on Thursday and Friday.

The cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan and Pakistan along with northwesterly winds over Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh is likely to bring dust storms or thunderstorms and isolated rain over these states for the next 5 days. On Wednesday, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are likely to experience scattered rains or snow and thunderstorms.

The trough over south India will continue to be in action for the next five days. Scattered rain and thunderstorms are likely over Karnataka, Odisha, Kerala, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar. Isolated rain is also possible over Andhra Pradesh and Goa.

Maximum temperatures are likely to be below normal over northern, western and north eastern India for the next 5 days. However, maximum temperatures will be above normal over southern and eastern India. On the other hand, minimum temperatures are likely to be above average or normal over all India in this period.

Maximum temperatures of 45°C or more are likely over Maharashtra and Telangana, while the mercury may touch 40°C or more in Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu
