Widespread Rain in Kerala; Wet Weather in South, East and Northeast India

Monday

The arrival of southwest monsoon in southern India has brought widespread rainfall over Kerala. The monsoon clouds are also likely to advance further north owing to favourable conditions.

Scattered rain and thunderstorms are likely over Karnataka, Maharashtra, Goa and Telangana. In addition to Kerala, widespread rain and thunderstorms are likely over Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Meghalaya. Snowfall is possible at higher reaches of Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim.

A fresh Western Disturbance (WD) over north India will trigger scattered snow or rain and thunderstorms over Jammu and Kashmir. Isolated snow or rain and thunderstorms are also possible over Himachal Pradesh.

The eastern parts of India is also expected to remain wet on Monday. According to the TWC met team, scattered rain and thunderstorms are possible over West Bengal and Bihar. Isolated rainfall and thunderstorms are also expected over Jharkhand, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

Maximum temperatures of 45°C or more is likely over Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh. Maximum temperatures of 40°C or more likely over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu.

Air quality will be poor or very poor across the country, especially in major cities like Delhi. Air qualities in Southern India are expected to be improved due to rainfall and onshore winds.

A low pressure area located in the Arabian Sea, about 400kms southwest of Mangaluru is likely to intensity into a cyclonic circulation and hit the western coast India. The location on Tuesday morning will be about 350 km southwest of Panaji. High and choppy waves more than 6 meter tall are forecast along coastal Kerala, Karnataka, and Maharashtra on Tuesday.

Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are very likely across coastal areas in southern, western, and northern India this week. Widespread rain and thunderstorms are likely to continue over Kerala and the Andaman and Nicobar islands. Scattered rainfall and thunderstorms are also likely over Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka due to similar weather conditions.

The prevailing Western Disturbance (WD) will continue to cause scattered snow or rain and thunderstorms over Jammu and Kashmir. Isolated snow or rain and thunderstorms are likely over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Isolated rain and thunderstorms is also likely over Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, and Uttar Pradesh.

Northeast India will continue to experience wet weather conditions this week. Scattered rain and thunderstorms are likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Meghalaya and West Bengal. Snow may mix in higher reaches of Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim.
