Vayu Loses Intensity; Likely to Cause 50 mm Rain on Friday

The cyclonic storm Vayu continues to move westwards as it loses its intensity. It is expected to cause 50mm of rainfall in 24 hours on west coast of Gujarat. Gale winds up to the speed of 70kmph is expected along west coast of Gujarat. Heavy rain, flooding, storm surge and gusty winds are all possible over the region.

The northern limit monsoon has further advanced into most parts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Parts of northeastern India like Manipur and Mizoram have also started to witness the onset of monsoon.

A cyclonic circulation over northeastern India and the incursion of southwesterly humid winds from Bay of Bengal are likely to cause heavy rain and thunderstorms across Assam, Meghalaya, , Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on Friday and Saturday.

Southwesterly humid winds from Arabian Sea produce heavy rain and thunderstorms along the western coastal regions. Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected over coastal regions of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh are expected to receive scattered rainfall and thunderstorms during this forecast period.

Maximum temperatures of 40°C or more is likely over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Saturday and beyond

The cyclonic storm Vayu is expected to turn northward after moving westward until Saturday night. The storm is likely to move northeastward after Sunday night and finally make a landfall over north western part of Gujarat as a deep depression.

The persisting weather conditions over northeastern India will lead to heavy rain and thunderstorms over Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura this week. Similarly, Similarly, scattered rain and thunderstorms are likely over Sikkim, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha and Chhattisgarh.

Unstable conditions over north eastern India persist for the next 5 days. West Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar will receive isolated rainfall due to similar weather anomalies.

Coastal Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka and Andaman and Nicobar islands will also receive heavy rainfall during the next five days. Kerala is also expected to receive fairly widespread rain and thunderstorms due to monsoons. Gujarat is also likely to receive scattered rain and thunderstorms due to the incursion of moist southwesterly humid winds from the Arabian Sea.

A western disturbance and its induced cyclonic circulation will lead to isolated rain and snow along with thunderstorms over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
