'Vayu' to Make a Landfall in Naliya, Gujarat with 'Deep Depression' Intensity

Cyclone Vayu.

Cyclone Vayu is likely to travel west-southwest after which it will take a sharp turn to northeast towards Gujarat. It will maintain its 'severe cyclonic storm' or 'cyclonic storm' intensity for the next 36 hours. It is forecast to make a landfall near Naliya on Tuesday morning with deep depression or depression intensity.

72 hours total rainfall at 6:30 am Wednesday with 35 mm to 70 mm rains is expected along coastal Gujarat, coastal Maharashtra, Goa, coastal Karnataka, and northern Kerala.

In Gujarat, 12 hours total rainfall of 10 mm will be common, up to 30 mm locally Monday night to Tuesday morning. Gale winds of 80 kmph are possible between Naliya and Dwarka on Thursday morning.

Up to 6 m wave height is expected along the coasts of Gujarat, Sunday to Monday. Heavy rain, flooding, and gusty winds are possible in Gujarat until Tuesday. Special attention is required around an arm of the sea running deep into the land.

A cyclonic circulation over northern Bay of Bengal and Arunachal Pradesh feed moist southerly winds to northeastern and eastern parts of India. This, combined with the arrival of Northern Limit Monsoon (NLM) is likely to cause wet weather conditions over the region.

Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are likely to experience heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. Snow may mix with rain in Sikkim. Isolated or scattered rain and thunderstorms is expected over West Bengal, Chhattisgarh and Odisha.

The coastal regions along the west coast of India: Maharashtra, Karnataka, Goa, Kerala and Gujarat will receive moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms due to the combined effect of cyclone Vayu and the advancement of south west monsoon.

The feeble western disturbance over north India will continue to affect the northern states. Isolated rain and snow along with thunderstorms are expected over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Isolated to scattered rain and thunderstorms is likely over Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu are also likely to witness isolated to scattered rainfall and thunderstorms during this forecast period. Similarly, the Andaman and Nicobar islands will get heavy rainfall

Max temperatures of 40°C or more likely over Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Jammu & Kashmir.

Air quality will be very poor over northern, central and eastern India, especially in major cities like Delhi. They will be poor over western, north eastern, and southern India.

Monday and beyond

The prevailing weather conditions over north eastern and eastern parts of India will continue to cause heavy rain and thunderstorms over Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. Isolated to scattered rainfall and thunderstorms are likely over Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Bihar.

The combined effect of feeble cyclone Vayu and the advancement of south west monsoon season will cause fairly widespread rain and thunderstorms over Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka and Kerala. Gujarat may also receive fairly widespread rain and thunderstorms.

The feeble western disturbance will continue to trigger isolated snow or rain and thunderstorms over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Isolated to scattered rain and thunderstorms is likely over Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh. Dust storms may affect Rajasthan, Delhi and NCR.

Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu are also likely to witness isolated to scattered rainfall and thunderstorms during this forecast period. Similarly, the Andaman and Nicobar islands will get heavy rainfall.
