Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms Likely In North East India

The Northern Limit Monsoon has further advanced into parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and north eastern India. The arrival of monsoon marks the start of rainy season in these places.

The TWC met team has predicted isolated to scattered rainfall and thunderstorms over Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha and Chhattisgarh.

Other regions like Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh may also receive moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms due to the arrival of southwest monsoons. Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Kerala and the Andaman and Nicobar islands may also experience isolated to scattered rainfall along with thunderstorms owing to the arrival of monsoons.

The incursion of moist air into the northeastern parts of India is likely to cause moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh will receive the heaviest rainfall. The TWC met team also expects rainfall accumulation of 20-50mm/12 hours, with up to 125mm/12hours possible locally on Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

Meanwhile, isolated to scattered snow and thunderstorms are likely over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. This is likely to abate and dry weather conditions will be restored.

Thursday and beyond

Heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorms are possible over Sub-himalayan West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh. Moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms are likely over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.

Maharashtra, Goa, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka may also get moderate to heavy rain due to the arrival of south west monsoons over the region. Isolated and scattered rainfall is also possible over Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and the Andaman and Nicobar islands due to similar weather conditions.

The advancement of Northern Limit Monsoon (NLM) is likely to cause isolated to scattered rain over Rajasthan, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh. Northern parts of India like Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand will continue witnessing isolated snow or rain and thunderstorms,

Max temperatures of 40°C or more are likely over Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh.

Meanwhile, air quality will be poor or very poor over northern, central, western, southern, and eastern India, especially in major cities like Delhi.
