Heavy Rains to Lash Coastal Maharashtra, Goa

Heavy rain and thunderstorms are likely over Sikkim, Assam and Meghalaya due to the incursion of southwesterly humid winds and a cyclonic circulation over north eastern India. Similarly, fairly widespread rain and thunderstorms are likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. Scattered rain and thunderstorms are possible over West Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar.

Westerly humid winds from Arabian Sea and cyclonic circulation over coastal Maharashtra produce heavy rain and thunderstorms along coastal Maharashtra, and also along the southern coast of India. The TWC met team expects unstable weather conditions to prevail in coastal Maharashtra and southern India for the next 2-3 days. Total precipitation is likely to be around 150-200mm over coastal Maharashtra and Goa.

Scattered rain and thunderstorms are possible over Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Kerala. Tamil Nadu will get isolated rainfall and thunderstorms during this forecast period. Heavy rains are expected over Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Chhattisgarh due to the formation of a cyclonic circulation and trough extending from Andhra Pradesh to Odisha.

As the south west monsoon has progressed further north, conditions have become favourable for precipitation over the region. Isolated rain and thunderstorms are possible over Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.

Heat wave conditions are highly unlikely for the next 5 days as most parts of India have begun to experience rainfall.

Saturday and beyond

The persisting weather conditions over northeastern and eastern parts of India are likely to cause heavy rain and thunderstorms over Sikkim. Scattered rain and thunderstorms are also likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Jharkhand and Bihar. Similarly, fairly widespread rain and thunderstorms will be seen over West Bengal.

The advance of south west monsoons into northern and central parts of India will cause isolated rain and thunderstorms over Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu.

A low pressure system is forecast to form over northern Bay of Bengal on Sunday 30th Jun. The low pressure moves toward Eastern India. It will be over Odisha and West Bengal on Tuesday morning next week, over Chhattisgarh and west Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday morning and over Madhya Pradesh on Thursday morning. The low pressure brings heavy rain and thunderstorms over Eastern and Central India next week.

Cyclonic circulation and trough over Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, produce heavy rain and thunderstorms over Eastern India. Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected over Chhattisgarh and Odisha on Friday. Heavy rain and thunderstorms are possible over Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha on Saturday.

Maximum temperatures are near average over northern, eastern and western India until Monday night. Maximum temperatures will go down over eastern and central India from Tuesday night due to rainfalls. Minimum temperatures are near average all over India for the next 5 days.
