Wet Weather Persists Over Coastal Maharashtra, Goa, Uttarakhand

Friday - Nationwide Rain Forecast

The monsoon trough passes through north Rajasthan, north Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and northeast Bay of Bengal. The monsoon is active with multiple cyclonic circulation over central and eastern India in this period.

Heavy to very heavy rain with thunderstorms are likely over Rajasthan, coastal Maharashtra, Goa, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, interior Maharashtra and Odisha.

Also, heavy rain and thunderstorms are likely over coastal Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Assam, Meghalaya, Gujarat and Jharkhand.

Fairly widespread rain and thunderstorms are likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Sikkim, Bihar, Telangana, interior Karnataka, Kerala and Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Isolated rain and thunderstorms is also expected over Tamil Nadu.

Friday - State/Regional Forecast

A cyclonic circulation is located over West Bengal and Bangladesh on Friday morning. The low produces heavy rain and thunderstorms over eastern India on Friday.

Another cyclonic circulation is located over Uttar Pradesh on Friday morning. The low is likely to bring heavy rain and thunderstorms over central and northern India on Friday through the weekend.

Westerly humid winds from the Arabian Sea produces heavy rain and thunderstorms over western coast, western and southern India. Strong westerly winds over Arabian Sea causes rough sea conditions off the coasts of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka.

Southwesterly humid winds from the Bay of Bengal lead to instability and produce fairly widespread rain and thunderstorms over northeastern India.

The maximum temperatures run lower than normal over northern, northwestern and central India, it is likely to be 40°C or more over western Rajasthan. The southern and western coastal India are warmer than average in this period. Minimum temperatures are likely to be slightly lower than normal over northern India and near average over the other areas.

Saturday and Beyond

The prevailing cyclonic circulation over West Bengal is likely to develop and a low pressure is forecast to form on Saturday. The low produces heavy rain and thunderstorms over eastern India on Saturday. The low moves gradually towards the west. Heavy to very heavy rain with thunderstorms is likely over Rajasthan, coastal Maharashtra, Goa, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Odisha.

Another existing cyclonic circulation located over Uttar Pradesh and north Madhya Pradesh is likely to develop a low pressure on Saturday. The low moves westward and brings heavy rain and thunderstorms over central and western India through the weekend and in the next week. Fairly widespread rain and thunderstorms are likely over Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Delhi, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Telangana and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Westerly humid winds from the Arabian Sea produces unstable conditions over western and southern India for a duration. Heavy rain and thunderstorms are likely over coastal Karnataka, Gujarat, West Bengal, Jharkhand and interior Maharashtra. Scattered rain and thunderstorms are likely over Andhra Pradesh, interior Karnataka and Kerala. Also, isolated rain and thunderstorms is expected over Tamil Nadu.

Unstable conditions over northeastern India persist for the next 5 days. Fairly widespread rain and thunderstorms are likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.

Maximum temperatures of 40°C or more are very likely over western Rajasthan. The air quality is likely to be very poor over northern, central, eastern and western India and in major cities like Delhi.
