East Rajasthan Likely to Get 150-250 mm Rainfall Over the Weekend

Saturday - Nationwide Rain Forecast

The monsoon trough passes north Rajasthan, north Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, West Bengal and east central Bay of Bengal. The monsoon is active with multiple cyclonic circulations over northern, central and eastern India in this period.

Heavy to very heavy rain with thunderstorms are likely over Rajasthan, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, coastal Maharashtra and Goa. Also, heavy rain and thunderstorms are likely over coastal Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, interior Maharashtra, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Assam and Meghalaya.

Fairly widespread rain and thunderstorms are likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Delhi, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, interior Karnataka, Kerala and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Scattered rain and thunderstorms are likely over Bihar and isolated rain and thunderstorms are possible over Tamil Nadu.

Saturday - State/Regional Forecast

A cyclonic circulation is located over west Uttar Pradesh and adjoining areas on Saturday morning. This cyclonic circulation is likely to develop into a related low-pressure area and move westward on Saturday and Sunday. The low brings heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorms over east Rajasthan and north Madhya Pradesh on Saturday. A total precipitation of 150 to 250 mm with flooding is possible over the next 48 hours in east Rajasthan and adjoining areas on Saturday and Sunday.

A cyclonic circulation is located over West Bengal and adjoining areas on Saturday morning. The cyclonic circulation is likely to develop and a low-pressure area is forecast to form over West Bengal and Odisha on Saturday.

Westerly humid winds from the Arabian Sea produce heavy rain and thunderstorms over western coastal, western and southern India. Strong westerly winds over the Arabian Sea causes rough sea conditions off the coasts of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka.

Maximum temperatures run lower than normal over northern, northwestern, central and eastern India during this period. It is likely to be more than 40°C over western Rajasthan. Southern and western coastal areas India are warmer than average. Minimum temperatures are slightly lower than normal over the northern plains and the over other areas. They are near average or slightly warmer than normal in this period.

Sunday and Beyond

The low-pressure over west UP moves to Gujarat on Monday. Heavy to very heavy rains are likely over Gujarat on Monday and a total 24 hours precipitation of 150 to 200 mm with flooding is possible over west Gujarat as well. Heavy to very heavy rain with thunderstorms are likely over Gujarat, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, coastal Maharashtra, Goa, Madhya Pradesh and interior Maharashtra. Scattered rain and thunderstorms are likely over Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Andhra Pradesh, interior Karnataka and Kerala.

The low-pressure area along with a cyclonic circulation over West Bengal produces heavy rain and thunderstorms over eastern India from Saturday to Monday. The low moves gradually westward. Heavy rain and thunderstorms are likely over coastal Karnataka and Odisha.

Westerly humid winds from the Arabian Sea continue to cause the unstable conditions over western coastal and southern India for a duration.

Widespread rain and thunderstorms are likely over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Fairly widespread rain and thunderstorms are also likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand and Telangana. Isolated rain and thunderstorms are possible over Tamil Nadu as well.

Maximum temperatures of 40°C or more are very likely over a part of western Rajasthan. The air quality is likely to be very poor over northern, central, eastern and western India and in major cities like Delhi.
