Maharashtra, Goa and Gujarat to Receive Heavy Downpour

Friday - Nationwide Forecast

The monsoon is active over Western India, and weak over Northern, Eastern and North Eastern India.

A cyclonic circulation is located over east-central Arabian Sea and adjoining area on Friday morning. The circulation and related low pressure area produce heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorms over coastal and interior Maharashtra, Goa and Gujarat.

A cyclonic circulation is located over coastal Andhra Pradesh on Friday morning. The cyclonic circulation and related low pressure area will produce fairly widespread rain and thunderstorms over Andhra Pradesh.

Heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorms likely over Maharashtra, Goa and Gujarat.

Heavy rain and thunderstorms are likely over Uttarakhand, east Uttar Pradesh, east Rajasthan, coastal Karnataka and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

Fairly widespread rain and thunderstorms are expected over Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, interior Karnataka and Kerala.

Scattered rain and thunderstorms have been forecast over Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Sikkim, Odisha, Bihar, west Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Tamil Nadu.

Isolated rain and thunderstorms are possible over Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal, Jharkhand and west Rajasthan.

Saturday and Beyond

The cyclonic circulation and related low pressure will develop over east-central Arabian Sea and Northeast Arabian sea on Friday and through the weekend, and move gradually west-northwestward. The circulation and the low pressure area will bring heavy to very rain and thunderstorms over coastal Maharashtra, Goa and Gujarat on Saturday. Heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorms are likely over west Gujarat on Sunday.

A cyclonic circulation and related low pressure area are expected to form over west-central Bay of Bengal on Sunday morning. The cyclonic circulation is forecast to develop and move northwestward. The low pressure area will affect Eastern and Southern India next week.

Here is the rainfall breakup w.r.t. intensity for Saturday:

  • Heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorms: Gujarat, coastal Maharashtra and Goa.
  • Heavy rain and thunderstorms: Uttarakhand, east Rajasthan, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, interior Maharashtra, coastal Karnataka and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
  • Fairly widespread rain and thunderstorms: Arunachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala.
  • Scattered rain and thunderstorms: Assam, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Odisha, Haryana, Delhi, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and interior Karnataka.
  • Isolated rain and thunderstorms: West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar and west Rajasthan.

The west coast area of Southern India and North Eastern India will be slightly warmer than average until Monday.
