Heavy to Very Heavy Rains Likely Across Kerala, Karnataka over Weekend

5-Day Nationwide Weather Forecast

The Southwest Monsoon has advanced into some areas of southwest and southeast Arabian Sea and some more areas of Maldives-Comorin area. Conditions are becoming favorable for further advancement into the area in the next two days.

A low pressure area and related cyclonic circulation are forecast to form over southeast and adjoining east-central Arabian Sea on Sunday, and it is very likely to intensify into a depression over east-central and adjoining southeast Arabian Sea.

The depression might develop and move northwestward over east-central Arabian Sea next week, as sea surface temperatures are more than 30°C over southeast and east-central Arabian Sea, and upper level winds remain weak over southeast and east-central Arabian Sea. It will subsequently bring heavy rain and thunderstorms over coastal Western India and Southern India from Sunday onwards. Heavy rainfall is likely over coastal Karnataka, coastal Maharashtra, and Goa from Sunday onwards.

A trough and a cyclonic circulation are located over Southern India in this period. Fairly widespread to widespread rain and thunderstorms are likely over Kerala and Karnataka from Saturday onwards. Further, scattered to fairly widespread rain and thunderstorms are possible over Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in this period. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Kerala, Lakshadweep and Karnataka, while Tamil Nadu will receive heavy rains on Saturday.

A cyclonic circulation is over North Eastern India, and southwesterly winds from Bay of Bengal will bring humid air into North Eastern and Eastern India in this forecast period. Scattered to widespread precipitation and thunderstorms are likely over the two regions for the duration. Heavy rainfall is expected over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura from Sunday onwards, and over Odisha on Sunday.

A western disturbance and related cyclonic circulation is located over north Pakistan and adjoining area on Saturday morning. The disturbance will bring scattered to fairly widespread precipitation and thunderstorms over Northern India on Saturday and Sunday. Heavy rainfall is likely over Himachal Pradesh on Sunday.

Max temperature of 40°C or more is possible over Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, interior Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, interior Karnataka, Telangana and Tamil Nadu this weekend. Hot areas shall gradually decrease through this period into next week. No heat wave conditions are likely to develop all over India for the duration.

Maximum temperatures will be cooler than average over Northern, North Central, Eastern and North Eastern India in this period. Maximum temperatures are warmer than average over Western and Southern India until Monday. Cooler areas will increase for the duration.

Minimum temperatures will be cooler than normal over Northern, North Central and Eastern India in this period. Minimum temperatures shall be near normal or slightly warmer than normal over Southern and Western India.

Heavy rain is likely over Tamil Nadu, while heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over Kerala, Lakshadweep and Karnataka.

Widespread rain and thunderstorms are possible over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, interior Karnataka, Kerala and Lakshadweep.

Fairly widespread rain/snow and thunderstorms have been forecast over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, while fairly widespread rains and thunderstorms are likely over Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, coastal Karnataka and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

Scattered rain/snow and thunderstorm are expected over Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim. Scattered rain and thunderstorms are on the cards for Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, Rajasthan, east Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

Isolated rain is possible over west Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Sunday

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Kerala, Lakshadweep and Karnataka, while just heavy showers are expected over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, coastal Maharashtra and Goa.

Widespread rain and thunderstorms have been predicted over Karnataka, Kerala and Lakshadweep.

Fairly widespread rain/snow and thunderstorms are expected over Sikkim, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, while fairly widespread rain and thunderstorms are likely over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Odisha and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

Scattered rain/snow and thunderstorms have been forecast over Arunachal Pradesh. Scattered rain and thunderstorms are likely over West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, east Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Goa, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana.
