Heavy rains that killed at least two people in California this week eased on Friday but authorities are warning that the danger of mudslides continues.

"The ground is still so saturated and the water is still flowing down from the mountains," said April Newman, spokeswoman for Riverside County Fire Department.

The storm damaged homes and caused widespread power outages, flooding, debris flows and triggered evacuations at burn scars.

At least two deaths have been linked to the heavy rains.

An unidentified woman rescued from rising water in a low-lying area near Los Angeles on Thursday suffered a heart attack and died at a local hospital, said Capt. Ryan Rolston with the Corona Fire Department. The woman was one of nine people and three dogs rescued from a flood-control channel where homeless people often camp, the Associated Press reported.

Early Thursday, a woman was rescued from her Sausalito home after it slid "some distance" down a hill and crashed into another one, according to NBC Bay Area.

The woman, later identified as Susan Gordon, was "pinned within the debris in her home" and was "encased in mud," Capt. Doug Paterson with the Southern Marin Fire Protection District told the news station. Rescuers her hand and pulled her her to safety, Paterson said.

The report said Gordon was talking and thanking her neighbors after she was rescued and is expected to make a full recovery.

The incident prompted officials to evacuate 50 homes in the vicinity because of the risk of more slides and possible broken gas lines and downed power lines. The fire department later said the mud picked up two homes and covered five cars.

"We don't see the rain most of the year, so most of the year you feel safe. But when the big storms come, your safety factor is gone," local resident Chris Parkman told the Associated Press.
