The Challenger League, a non-profit organization in Albany that provides social and recreational activities for special needs children, is hosting a fundraiser this weekend to raise money for an all-inclusive playground.

Executive Director Jennifer Sapp says the plan is to build the park at the Challenger League headquarters at 429 Dunbar Lane in Albany.

Sapp says she'd also like to see a number of nature trails that are wheelchair accessible throughout the six acre property, as well.

Once built, the playground will be wheelchair-friendly and open to anyone in the community.

Sapp says she wants every child, regardless of medical diagnosis, to have a place to play and enjoy the outdoors.

"It breaks my heart when you don't know what you have," said Sapp. "I've seen people ask, 'why do we need a playground just for your kids?' Well, you have one for yours so why can't our kids be included."

The fundraiser will be held at the Shackelford House at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Tickets cost $50 and include whiskey, wine and beer samples, a variety of appetizers from Stewbo's different restaurants, live music from the Bo Henry Band, silent auctions and more.

You can purchase a ticket at "Then and Now" Boutique in Albany or by calling Sapp directly at (229) 869-5136.
