LITCHFIELD (WGME) -- A man who was on the run from police accused of kidnapping, domestic violence and assault was arrested Wednesday morning.

Joshua Tilley was captured by police in a wooded area along Dead River Road in Litchfield around 5 a.m.

It was calls from two neighbors on Dead River Road that led two troopers and two K-9's to the area.

“They had contact visually with him first, they closed a distance and then they had physical contact and took him into custody without incident,” said Lt. Patrick Hood with Maine State Police. “We called our partners at the Sagadahoc County Sheriff's Office and they rolled a couple of units here to contain the area to make sure that if this was in fact Mr. Tilley. We kept in the area so we had a place to start from."

His capture stems from an incident early Tuesday morning.

A text to 911 from Tilley’s girlfriend, saying she needed help, led police to Tilley’s parents’ house on Dead River Road.

"We had established a perimeter watching the house and we didn't have any movement all day but we were able to determine was that his female friend was accounted for during the afternoon which made us very comfortable that we didn't have her in the house,” Hood said.

Police say Tilley left the house after dark Tuesday night.

"There are holes in a perimeter and he was able to successfully get through that. He did have contact with troopers but unfortunately he was able to get into an area that he's familiar with that we are just not,” Hood said.

Tilley also has a warrant for domestic violence in Arizona. Once he's done being processed in Maine he'll be sent back to Arizona to face charges.

Police say while there were weapons in the home he was in, there's no indication he was armed at any point.

"There was a physical incident between the two parties. That incident did occur here, but it sounds like this is an ongoing situation between those two and at this point we are fortunate that she is safe," Hood said.

Tilley is being held at the Kennebec County Jail.
