MONROE COUNTY, Ga -- A train hit a car this morning in Forsyth on North Indian Springs Drive, sending one person to the hospital with minor injuries, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

According to the Facebook page of the Monroe County Emergency Management Agency, the accident was at the North Lee Street crossing in front of Bryant's Collisions.

Deputies say the car was hit by the train as it was "traveling across the railroad tracks."

The EMA adds that Tift College Drive and Mize Street are open for use.

In 2016,Forsyth City Council voted to approve a resolution to oppose the Georgia Department of Transportation's recommendations to add medians to N. Lee St. and close the Indian Springs Railroad crossing.
