JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (AP) — Jacksonville State University’s president has been fired.

News outlets report the school’s attorney, Sam Monk, confirms John Beehler’s termination, without cause, was approved by the school’s Board of Trustees. Monk says Beehler’s duties as president end Tuesday. However, his last day is Nov. 21.

Don Killingsworth, the school’s chief external affairs officer, has been named interim president.

Beehler’s termination comes weeks after a Georgia woman sued JSU and the board, claiming the university aided in covering up an alleged sexual assault by a basketball player in 2017. And, at least a dozen men face rape or sodomy charges after being accused of having sex with two minors on or near the campus.

Beehler has been president since July 2015. He’s been on leave since Oct. 1.
