One man is dead following a house and barn fire in the Town of Trenton.

The Utica OD reports, crews were called to the residence on Pierce Road and Korber Road just after 4:00 p.m. Wednesday.

The fire is said to have started in a "shop" behind the house and due to high winds, the blaze quickly spread to the residence and a nearby barn.

The house belonged to six people, but it is not known how many people were home at the time of the fire. 40 cows were able to make it out of harm's way and were taken to another location.

Crews attempted to stabilize a man in his 90s on the scene, who suffered from an unknown medical problem. The man died at the scene.

It's estimated that the fire caused over $750,000 worth of damage. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. It is not believed that there was any foul play.
