The outrage over generations of oppression and the pain of police brutality that claimed the life of George Floyd last week filled the souls of thousands of protesters Monday night outside City Hall in Baltimore.

As the night wore on, hundreds of protesters who had walked along I-83 joined this movement and together, many of them kept walking the streets of Charm City.

In contrast to some of the peaceful protests seen in Baltimore, there were several tense moments witnessed between protestors and law enforcement in D.C.

Caron, who would only share his first name, says he drove up from Columbia, Maryland to make his position clear.

“I feel like we getting played with and they’ve been killing us for so long and I don’t like it,” said Caron.

Many in this sea of broken hearts believe this moment is more than a fleeting expression of indignation, but a key time in civil rights history.

Derrick Lyons said, “This is our fight. This if our generational fight.”

Protester Derrick Lyons believes the struggle for peace, equality and justice for all, will be the defining moment of his life and will take more than this night’s protest to solve.

“As a black man growing up one thing I’ve learned is that it’s a continuous cycle and this cycle has to be broken now.” If we don’t break this chain of oppression that has been happening for years we will continue a decline," said Lyons.
