Blueberry Season in Full Strength in New Jersey

It's blueberry season in the Garden State and it's a big time of year for farmers around the state. According to World Atlas, New Jersey is 5th in the nation in blueberry production. New Jersey growers yield nearly 57 million pounds of blueberries a year. Many attribute NJ temperatures and soil as the reason for our fantastic blueberry crops.

This weekend I had a chance to go to the Blueberry Festival at Whitesbog in Browns Mills (Burlington County) on a picture perfect weekend and YES, we bought a good amount of blueberries to enjoy this summer. Check it out:

According to Google, the blueberry, which was first cultivated in Whitesbog, became the official state fruit in 2004. In 2003 here in Ocean County, fourth graders at Veteran's Memorial Elementary School in Brick campaigned to make the blueberry the official state fruit. Guess the kids in Brick made their point!
