I would assume the Illinois basketball team is fairly close to rounding out their roster for the 2019-2020 campaign.

According to verbalcommits.com, the Illini have zero scholarships available as of the moment I type this. There have already been three players commit to the class of 2019 for the Orange and Blue. The highest rated recruit out of this trio is Kofi Cockburn. He is a top 50 No. 5 for the Illini. I can’t wait to see what he can do for this program. Antwan January is another No. 5 who will provide depth. I also liked the addition of Bernard Kouma, who is a No. 4 and will be a solid player for the Illini.

Illinois, clearly, isn’t done recruiting, though. They are pursuing other recruits right now. The list of players who the Illini are eyeing is narrowing, but there is still some serious interest from some big-time transfers. One of those transfers is Tomas Woldetensae.

Woldetensae is a 6-foot-5, 195-pound wing player from Bologna, Italy. He spent the last two seasons with Indian Hills Community College in Iowa, though. During his time with Indian Hills, Woldetensae shined. That is why he has become one of the most highly regarded junior college transfers in the last few years.

As a sophomore at Indian Hills, Woldetensae put up 17.3 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. He shot a solid 46.7-percent from the field, but what was most impressive was his three-point shooting. He was an outstanding 47.6-percent from deep. That is a number even the best three-point shooters would be amazed by.

There is a great reason the Illini are after this kid. Woldetensae can make that three-point shot and would be a perfect piece to this program. The feeling between the two is mutual as well. Woldetensae ended up taking one of his five official visits this weekend to Champaign. This is huge news for the Illini. Getting this kid would help them turn the corner and get back to the postseason.

I have said I liked a lot of different transfers. They could all bring something solid to the table. But Woldetensae is different. This kid isn’t just a transfer who can contribute. He could come in and be a star from the beginning. I want him on the team. I hope the official visit went well because we need Woldentensae.
