ROANOKE Co., Va. (WSET) -- The Roanoke County Police Department is warning residents to be aware after items were stolen from multiple vehicles in two neighborhoods over the weekend.

Police say Winterberry Condos and the Spring Valley neighborhood off of Garst Mill Road were the locations affected.

Police say also that about 24 reported vehicles were gone through and none were believed to be locked.

In one of the larcenies, a 9mm handgun was stolen.

The police department took it to Facebook to warn residents saying, "While we know that if a vehicle is left unlocked that it does not give permission for anyone to go through it or steal it, we need your help. Do your part and LOCK IT, HIDE IT, KEEP IT. Never leave a firearm in an unlocked vehicle."
