Marchers in Greendale have begun a kneeldown of eight minutes, 42 seconds at Greendale High School in what is expected to be the end of a civil rights protest there.
Eight minutes, 42 seconds equates to how long George Floyd was pinned down by the knee of a now-fired and charged Minneapolis Police officer before he died in an incident on Memorial Day.
The protest has been peaceful, according to WTMJ’s Rusty Mehlberg. The march began at the high school at about 2 p.m., went to the village hall and returned to the high school.

Protesters have taken to the streets today for the eighth day of protests in the Milwaukee area, in response to George Floyd’s death at the hands of Minneapolis Police on Memorial Day.
At least three larger protests have been planned for the Milwaukee area, all starting at 2 p.m. today:
– Brookfield, at the corner of Moorland Road and Blue Mound Road
– Greendale near Southridge Mall
– Humboldt Park on Milwaukee’s south side
The planned Greendale demonstration has prompted Southridge Mall to close for the day.
There is a smaller protest already underway that includes Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett marching alongside demonstrators. It began at St. Joseph’s Hospital at 51st and Chambers on Milwaukee’s north side.
